![]() They will handle a light and aggressive touch equally well. But at their best they are fundamental and raw sounding and can dish out some serious attitude. Those wanting to sell them often like to describe it as a "bluesy" sound (which is based on the fact the Oscar Schmidt concerts have earned a reputation as the archetype blues guitar). At the worst they have a boxy sound and almost a hollow ring to them. If you want a guitar with a hair trigger response and is rich in overtones a ladder braced guitar would not be your first choice. So not surprisingly even companies like Gibson used it in their off brands such as Kalamazoos and Cromwells and after WWII in their entry level instruments like the LG-1. The thing about ladder braced guitars is once you hit the 1930s the bracing becomes associated with a way to get guitars into as many hands as possible while cutting production costs. But as I said the Harmony H165 which is the same guitar was in production for around 30 years so plenty of them out there.
